Fulfilment fees are driven by size and weight, not price, so they punish cheap bulky products hardest. A $12 item in a large standard-size box can lose 45–55% of its price to Amazon alone, while a $40 item in the same box loses around 18%.

What is the per-item minimum referral fee?

Amazon charges whichever is larger: the category percentage of the selling price, or a fixed per-item minimum (commonly $0.30). On low-priced items the minimum is what actually applies, which is why cheap products often carry a higher effective referral rate than the published one.

Do FBA fees change during the year?

Yes. There is usually a peak-season fulfilment and storage surcharge running from roughly October through January. Budget for it or your Q4 margin will come in far below plan.

Are storage fees charged per unit or per cubic foot?

Per cubic foot per month, based on the dimensions of the packaged unit. To get a per-unit storage figure, multiply cubic feet by the monthly rate and by the number of months you expect the stock to sit.

Does Amazon charge fees on refunded orders?

When a seller-fulfilled or FBA order is refunded, the referral fee is usually returned minus a small retention amount, while fulfilment fees are typically not refunded. Returns therefore cost more than the lost sale alone.

How can I reduce the fulfilment fee?

Reduce packaged dimensions, because the size tier is measured on the packed unit. Moving down one size tier is frequently worth more per unit than negotiating a cent or two off your supplier price.

What is the long-term storage surcharge?

Fees apply to inventory stored over 180 days and 365 days. The charges accelerate with time. Clear slow-moving stock before hitting these thresholds or the fees will erase margins.

How do I read the Amazon fee rate card?

The rate card lists referral percentages by category, fulfilment fees by size tier, and storage rates by month. Download the latest version before pricing — older rates will undercharge you.

Are there hidden Amazon fees I should watch?
