    How this is calculated

Etsy stacks several separate charges: a listing fee, a transaction fee on the sale, payment processing, and — above a revenue threshold — a mandatory offsite ads fee. Currency conversion applies if you sell internationally. This calculator nets all of them out against what the buyer paid.

    1. Fee base = (item price × quantity) + shipping charged
    2. Transaction fee = fee base × transaction rate
    3. Payment processing = fee base × processing rate + fixed fee
    4. Offsite ads fee = fee base × offsite rate (above the revenue threshold)
    5. Net proceeds = fee base − (transaction + processing + offsite + listing fees)

What to make of the number

Once offsite ads become mandatory, the effective fee rate on an Etsy order commonly lands between 20% and 25%. Sellers who discovered this after the fact were the ones who got into trouble — the fee is not optional above the threshold, so it belongs in your price from the start.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the offsite ads fee and can I opt out?
It is a fee on sales attributed to Etsy's offsite advertising. Below a certain annual revenue threshold it applies only to attributed sales and can be opted out of; above that threshold it becomes mandatory on all sales. Check your current threshold before pricing.
Is the transaction fee charged on shipping?
Yes, the transaction fee applies to the item total plus the shipping amount. This is why under-pricing an item and over-charging shipping does not reduce fees.
How do listing fees work on multi-quantity orders?
Listing fees are charged per listing, not per unit sold. A single listing purchased in quantity incurs one listing fee, which means larger orders carry a slightly lower effective fee rate.
    What about currency conversion?
If you list in a currency different from your bank's, a conversion charge is applied when funds are deposited. On international-heavy shops this is a real and easily overlooked cost.
Does Etsy take a cut of the sales tax?
No. Sales tax collected on behalf of buyers is not included in the fee base, though payment processing may apply depending on the region.
